Skeleton Relay and Halloween Stations

October 21 - October 25

Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten
I read Teacher from the Black Lagoon to the younger classes and talked about the gym not being a scary place.
Stations:
Haunted house - built a haunted house using cupstackers.
Graveyard - Students threw foam noodles - bones, into a coffin, large tub.
Ghost Droppings - Students picked up green packing peanuts (ghost droppings) with a spoon and carried them to plastic pumpkins.
Pumpkin Toss - Students thew fleece balls through the mouth of the wooden Jack-O-Lantern
Skeleton - I had a simpler skeleton from a bone book for younger students to put together.
Spider ride- Younger students rode on trike with spiders in a Halloween bucket to half court and threw the spider onto a plate.  They then rode back to the wall, touched it and came back to half court to do it again.
Eyeballs and Racquets - We drew eyeballs on white balloons for students to practice striking.
Brains and Skulls- Students practiced throwing the fleece ball (brain) in the air and catching it with a milk jug the bottom had been cut out of (skull.)
Balance Beam - Walk across balance beam holding the pumpkin and try not to fall off

5th and 6th grade students helped their pre-k buddies with Halloween stations.

1st grade - 6th grade worked on the skeleton relay.  Students enjoyed working in teams and putting together the poly skeletons.  We used a diagram to help at first, but later in the week 4th, 5th and 6th grade students had to put it together without the diagram.  Students learned the location of the arm bones - humerus, radius and ulna as well as leg bones - femur, tibia and fibula.
